In “An Ancient Gesture,” what does the poem imply about the difference between the lives of men and women? Do you agree with that message? Why or why not?
I think men and women should be treated equally in all areas of life. Back then women were supposed to raise the family and have children. While the men had a job and fought for their country
The lives of men and women are different, but they should be treated equally. Back then, women couldn't have jobs. They had to stay home and take care of the family because that's what everyone thought they had to do.

It implies that men are stronger and can handle so much more then women. I disagree! I beleive we are equal. Yes men might have more physical stregth then most women but what women dont have in physical stregth we make for in mental strength.

I do not agree with this message because some of the women in our life have harder jobs than men in life. Some women are in the milatary and some are on the police force so they are risking their lives to protect the lives of many people. Some men actually stay home now and let the women work.

and Ulysses( Odysseus in roman) who did the same wipe your eyes on the corner of the apron.. but penlope really cried. Odyyseus might wipe his eyes to get rid of dirt.. emotionless but trying to get home leaving all emotions lock away.

[[not true]] I COMPLETELY DISAGREE with that message. I mean, for example, women are tougher. I've talked to tatoo artists before and they've told me (both men AND women tatoo artists) that women hold up better than men do because they've seen these big men faint right before the needle touched them, but women just sat there, NO TEARS, and asked "have you started yet" when the tatoo artist was almost done.
Blanding makes a pretty good point on how women can do things men can and if they want to do whatever they want to do that a man could do they should. In fact, nobody can hold them back not even the president. The president may have alot of power ,but he will never be able to hold back somebodys' dream ,especially a womens' dream. In fact, everyone should be able to live of their dream because even the president said that this is a free country.
In the Ancient Gesture, it is clear that men can go and have a grand old time and risk their necks while the women stay home to cook, clean, and weave. UGH. There's nothing wrong with that from THEN because that's how life WAS then. But if anybody has that idea of society TODAY, then there is a problem. Because weve been through ENLIGHTENMENT, people!!! And now we know that women SHOULD be treated as equals, and vise versa! So I can't necessarily agree with that message, just know that it is acceptable for days of that time.
