If the journey symbolizes movement through life, what might the siren who calls to the traveler in the poem, Siren Song, represent? Support your answer with evidence from the text.
The siren represents the one of the many challenges that you will face in life and the challenges that will try and keep you from reaching your goal in life and succeeding.
The Sirens in the poem, Siren Song, represent life itself. As you go through life, you obviously are becoming closer and closer to death. the text says that Sirens sing beautiful songs that lure there victims in. As the sailors make their way to the Sirens, they are becoming closer and closer to death. Once again people this is Michaela F.
The sirens in the poem represent life and the challenges you undertake. As you go through life you get older and older. The text says that the sirens are a beutiful sound to the ears to lure the victims in.When the victims finally get to the sirens they die.
I think that the Siren represents all the temptation in life. Because, like temptation, the Siren calls to the traveller, trying to persuade him to jump overboard, killing himself most likely, to get what he wants.
I think that the siren represents what curiosity can do to us. it can make us make decisions without us even consciously thinking about them. if the sailor who was listening to the song wasnt curious as to find out the song that nobody else knew then he probably would not have been killed. if people were not curious to learn things that others didnt know then most people wouldnt get into as much trouble.
In this case if the journey simbolizes life than maybe the siren may be a symbol of difficulties of oneself. I go and say this because really the siren is just one major difficulty among Odysseus himself.
The siren may symbolize an event that distracts you like maybe a concert you want to go to so badly you sneak out to go and you get grounded by your parents as soon as they find out. It may affect your friendships.
They might represnt people that try to tell you to do somthin that they know you will get in trouble for. They tell you that it is a song that everyone wants to kno.
The siren or sirn song who calls to the traveler in the poem could represent a trap or a way to get the saliors off course and not let them make to where they are trying to go.
I think the siren song represents death it is the song you hear right before your about to die regardless of the situation it is not something that we like but it is something that we all go through. If you do survive the song then you wont remember a thing.
I think the siren song represents death it is the song you hear right before your about to die regardless of the situation it is not something that we like but it is something that we all go through. If you do survive the song then you wont remember a thing.
It represents that one woman out of three doesn't like what she do. She doesn't like being half woman half bird. She wants to stop what she does to all of those people.
The siren may symbolize a journey that takes place, that has it's hardships during it. The hardships can contain death and temptation , and sometimes during the journey you have to over come them some how.
I believe the siren in the Siren Song would represent a stranger in life. In the song the sirens sing, they try to pull you in as if a stranger would do. Doing what they can to get you close to them. Once you hae falling for thier trick, your trapped.
The Siren Song would represent the things that sound good but are dangerous in life, such as cheating on a test; it would get you a 100 on the test but it could also get you in alot of trouble if you're caught. The song is sweet and beautiful but it is also deadly.
I think that the siren song would represent a person in odysseuss' life. Because the siren song favors women in the poem if you read it carefully and analize it, the poem is talking about a women well that is what i believe at least.
WREN!!! i agree with what you said but also the siren song isnt just another difficulty to odysseus it is more serious because the song traps you forever.
As a person, I think the Sirens in the poem "Siren Song" represent our subsiding times on Earth. In the poem, the sirens have lured a sailor in and killed him. Anything in life can take you away from your earthly life. Another day on Earth isn't guaranteed. To tell you the truth... I don't know whether I'm going to be alive tomorrow. No body does. We just hope to see another day.
Albert that's a good point. I think that is another thing that the Siren's Song can represent because it is about curiosity and how if they were not curios about the song then they would not be so intrested in hearing more of it.
The Siren symbolizes what almost humans find hard to resist, temptation it proves most effective to the Sirens because they have used the same song to lure sailors to their death. Even though they see where other sailors have died they still jump over in large "flocks" to their deaths.
Journeys are free moving pace marathons, the siren song then represents, quiting the race, wanting to end it not finishing and giving up. A temptation. Just because Odysseus and his men are tired and it is easier to quit then finish home. The book makes this representtation more dramatic ending in your death if you listen to the song, but it is a good symbolism to finishing the race/journey and not quiting becomes it's luring to quit, temptation is one thing that kills most of Odysseus men before getting home.
I think the siren represents a challenge that everyone would have to take jin their life time. As you go through life you lean that everyone has to die but as said in the text the siren song is beautiful but it lurs you to your death. And that something everyone faces jin life.
The siren song represents all the things in life that might go wrong. It also showed how sometimes being a little bit TOO curious can hurt you. The more the sailors listened, the quicker they were lured to death. If they would have just ignored the song and not listened they might not have died. And thats where I feel they went wrong.
The Siren song represented a call for help. The women were calling for help to be released from the bird bodies. They used their voices to call sailors in and would make anyone that heard it jump off the boat to their death, even though they knew that they would die, they were hypnotized by their voices.

The siren in the song represents a portion of your life but not death. it is a song but it is a story. The Odyssey the journey of life itself then the song is just a snippet of your life. this is the part of life where you encounter a person or an object that cries out for you as if it was luring you. The reason it says it lures sailors to their death is because if you give in at this part in life then you have given in to your own death.
You are speaking the truth when you say that the siren song is a trap trying to take the sailors off course. I guess the author is trying to say you must keep your eyes on the prize. So do you think that odysseus has a goal he is trying to reach which is why he has such willpower?
If you say that one woman out of the three doesn't like what she does then why do you think that she does it? What about the other two do you think they feel the same?
Chad true but your basically representing life and death still, if the phrase "it lures sailors to their deaths" was just a poetic phrase. Then does the siren song a real song of death , or a interesting song that leads u sideways like the politics of today society everywhere not just in government.
I think the song represent curiosity. The men that listen to the song are curious to find out what the song sounds like that nobody has ever heard before. The men don't know that the reason why no one ever heard it is, because no one survived to tell about the song. The song is a way to get men to kill themselves.
The Siren Song probably represents the temptations in life. Liek, when the men had to tie Odyssues down to keep him from resisting the temptation;Sirens Song
Hey im just putting this out here, but did anyone realize that people read even farther into their comments than most of the people originally intended, most of you people are going farther in depth for my comments than i even thought about.
yes albert but you know that's only because YOU are natural genius. I guess it just goes to show that the greatest stuff can get us a whole lot fartehr than we wouldve thought before our experiences and sharing other perspective. maybe that wouldve helped the people under the hypnotizing and luring Siren Song. If they couldve possibly snapped out of it for... like 10 seconds, they mightve seen the problem in a more clear point of view, maybe it wouldve kept them from DYING. Oh well. They didnt pop out of the trance. So sad.

The siren song represents life, or a struggle in it.
The siren catches the listeners attention, by saying it is a beautiful song and things like that.
but in the end, the listeners dies anyway.
Some people seem to think that the Sirens represent temptation. Do you think Odysseus able to overcome temptation on his journey? Why or why not?

Michaela,
Excellent analysis. Everyday we grow closer to dying and with each note the traveller came closer to his demise.

The Sirens in Siren Song represent how easily someone can be tempted and stray away from their goals.
The siren may symbolize an event that distracts you like maybe a concert you want to go to so badly you sneak out to go and you get grounded by your parents as soon as they find out. It may affect your friendships.
It might support tempations in life like Matthew said.

Hey Zach, tell how it just might symbolize this and just exactly are you saying it symbolizes.
I completely agree with you Michaela.

Hey nice thought Michaela, i never really thought of life that way, kind of depressing though once you think about it.

miss singleton.
i believe that Odysseus did overcome that temptation because he did what he could to keep himself away from the siren.

so true.
if people werent so courious and didnt try to get into others business they would stay out of trouble.

Britbratthecoolcat,
that is so true you put a lot of thought into that and in a way it does represent that!
Kenoona,
that is soo true, it does represent challenge and everyone has to face that challenge.
Britbratdacoolcat, i agree with you. It does show that to much curiosity can put you in danger.
