Discuss whether or not you would trust Odysseus to lead you through a difficult situation. Then, discuss how you would lead a group through a challenge.
if i was on the ship i most likely wouldnt trust odysseus. after "being" on the ship for so long and seeing the dangers he has put "me" through i wouldnt trust him with my life. although "i" have no choice but to ride in the ship and follow his orders but "i" wouldnt trust him. "i'd" rather join in on the ride than be left be hind or killed.
Yes i would trust Odysseus because he is a good leader. The only reason that he and his lost the ship was because the crew did not listen to the leader. I would lead a group wisely and if someone that is a god tells me not to do something then I will make sure me or my men or crew does not do it.
i wouldn't trust Odysseus , he wants to get home..
he has alot more to lose then the others.
I know he more worried of himself living then the others.
I an death situations i wouldn't let Odysseus have the fate of my life in his hands.
To lead better Odysseus needs to make an expect and not be the King he his and be the have less ego and order and make himself see his men in there lower class present and work together
I would have to agree with robert. They lost their ship because that man told the crew to slaughter their choice of Helios's livestock. If they had listened, then they would have had the ship, and lived.
Some of you are very wise in choosing not to trust Odysseus, how do you think that his men who lived in each episode avoided death due to Odysseus's antics?
The question of whether I would or would not trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult journey requires one simple word, NO. I would be extremely afraid and i would definetly not trust Odysseus with my life. He led men right into Scylla without telling them what was in store. If I was leading a group i would protect them and not let my curiosity get the better of me. I would tell them the dangers so that they could protect themselves. Also to answer Ms. Singleton's question, I think the men avoided death by learning Odysseus's ways and by looking out for themselves. Or they are just EXTREMELY lucky!!!
Ginger I completely agree with you. There isnt much you can do once aboard the ship but follow orders, but, i have a question. If you had a chance to escape and return home to your "home kingdom", would you give up the ride to somewhat save your own life, or stay for the ride????
Ginger I completely agree with you. There isnt much you can do once aboard the ship but follow orders, but, i have a question. If you had a chance to escape and return home to your "home kingdom", would you give up the ride to somewhat save your own life, or stay for the ride????
I would NOT trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult situation. He is more worried about himself than the lives of those around him. If I were to lead a group through a challenge, I would take into perspective how everyone could do something to help each other.
To tell you the truth I would not trust Odysseus to guide me through a difficult situation because he too makes many mistakes that I could not afford. The way I would lead a group through such an event would be by going and taking the most logical way to overcome it by wits or by physical characteristics.
No i wouldnt trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult situation. The way i would lead a group through a challenge is by telling them what is going to happen then they will be prepared.Instead of not telling and everything becomes a disaster.
Now that I have read your comment, I don't believe I would NOT trust odysseus.
Like you said "He led men right into Scylla without telling them what was in store."
If I was leading a group I would try protect them, also. Or I would have at least told my crew what was in store. I would of thought about them and not just myself.
I would not trust Odysseus with my life, during the 20 years that he is out at see he ends up getting every single one of his men killed by some different thing. besides, if i were to trust him then he may make enemies for me that i didnt even want because he may say something to tick them all off. perhaps if it seemed that he had better self control then i would have him lead me through something like like learning to kill some huge demon spawn chicken that eats people as revenge. actually i would probably have him lead me through that anyways but if he wasnt there id do the simplest thing i could think of... go to the local gun store, pick up some ammunition and shoot the thing in the face. that solves just about any problem.
I would trust Odysseus most of the time. He is a good leader, but he would give the life of his men away if it would save him. But i think he would try to keep his men alive if he new he could find a way out of the problem that they are in.
I like everybodys comments and i think they made wise decisions.
No I wouldn't trust him to lead me through a difficult situation because in the book it tells how he got most of him men killed and I don't really won't to die.
I would not trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult situation because even though he is a great warrior he has a lot to learn about being a leader. If i was the leader i would learn more about the men that i carry with me through difficult journey's and not just worry about myself because even though i am the leader i am responsible for all my men.
Would I let Odysseus lead me through a difficult situation... There is a YES side and a NO side that I would let him lead me. Why, you ask??? Well, NO because... Odysseus kind of led some if his men to ther death. I mean some of his desicions made his men get killed. YES because... He has fast reactions to anything. When something bad happens, he is always ready with plan. Those are my reasons for a yes or no answer. ☻☺♦♣♠ If I were to lead a group through a challenge, the first thing I would do is come up with a Plan A & a Plan B. Then I would discuss it with my group and then use the plan. If Plan A didn't work then I'd use plan B. If Plan B didnt work then I'll keep on tryin until I can't go no more.☻☺♦♣♠
i would not trust because he would probably already know the outcome of the situation and would not tell me like he did not tell his crew who was going to die. But if i were the leader i would not keep any secrets from my crew if they wanted to know the truth then i would tell them. But if they did not want to know the truth then i would not tell them.
JAMIEE!! hey i agree with you why would you trust someone that you know would lie to you in a difficult situation...
Yes, I would trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult journey because of his mind of intelligence. Ofcourse he may make mistakes, but he always finds a way to fix them.
If I had to lead a group through a hard journey, I would be sure to try not to make mistakes, but use my intelligence if I did to try to make up for them.
I would not trust Odysseus with my life. HE can not be trusted. He didn't even warn his men about the scylla. To add on to that he is too arrogant and that could cause even more problems for the crew. If I were the captain of the ship in the Odyssey we would have been home already. I would not have stopped on the Cyclops's island and i wouldn't have lead some of my men to their deaths. I would have atleast warned them about the scylla. That would have given them a little bit of time to prepare themselves.
I don't think I would let Odysseus lead me because he lets his curiosty get the better of him and he doesn't really know how to inspire loyalty in his men, they still kill the cattle of the sun go Helios even though he told them of the dangers. I'm not saying I would be any better at leading a group through some of the things that Odysseus and his crew went through because I'm sure I would have been afraid to fight a cyclops, force a god into doing what I needed them to do, sail towards Scylla knowing what she was and what she would do, or be able to survive at sea by only floating on drift wood.
Yes i would trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult situation because he would'nt be the leader of the crew for nothing. He must have some experience and knows he must make the tough decisions. If I were to lead them through a challenge I would ask the whole group what to do then build on that.
I would not trust Odysseus to get me through a situation because in the story he only cares about himself and wouldnt care if all his other men died just to get what he wanted. I would lead a group through a challenge by helping each person and not just caring about myself but eveyone else also.
Yes i would trust odysseus kto lead me through a difficult situation because he knows what to do and what to say. I would lead a group through a difficult challenge by giving good advice and thinking before i react.
Honestly i wouldnt trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult situation. yes i believe he is a good leader but he doesnt always use his head, usually his ego or couriousity is what he uses. I would lead a group through a challenge by actually using my mind and not my ego. I would try not to place my group in danger because i get courious about my surroundings.
no i would not trust odysseus to lead me on an adventure because i would never be able to trust him with my life he put too many people in danger so i would have to follow his orders but i wouldnt like it so much
i deffinately not put any ones life in danger if i had to lead any one through an adventurous challenge. that is exactly the opposite of what odysseus did. that is jsut wrong god put us on this earth to live and there is no "good" reason to put any ones life in danger. god will decide when it is time for us to leave this earth because he is the one who put us all here!!

I wouldn't because Odysseus gets himself into more trouble than he should and I would want someone to help me during that time than to bring me farther down. Sometimes Odysseus may seem like a good leader but in the end he always does something wrong to mess that up. I wouldn't want to take and chances that could endanger my life just because of him. I think I could find someone else to help me better than he could.
If I were to lead a group through a challenge I would do many things different than Odysseus. I would be a strong leader. I would also be determined and steadfast. I feel that my job would be to help my group out as much as possible rather than looking out for myself. Its for the benifit of the group as a whole. And I wouldnt let the fear of striking out keep me from playing the game. I wouldnt give up and I would always have hope.

Jordan, I am gong to have to disagree with you sorry :-), but he has let his personal life get in the way of his mens life he chose himself over his men, i wouldnt want him to do that to me!
I could probably trust Odyssues to lead me through a difficult situation beauase if anything were to go wrong he would know what to do at that point in time. It wouldn't take him forever and a day. Besides, if I were to lead the a group, I'd accidentally kill them all. If I had to lead a group through a challenge, I would make sure we had the nessesities. Then, I'd get a map & compass. Finally, I'd take us through wherever we had to go. I would make most of the needed desisions (when we ate, slept, etc.) but have a group vote for when we do unnessasary things (such as what we ate, where we slept, etc.) But, the sad thing is, I'd probably end up killing every single one of us.

I would be kind of unsure at first, on trusting odysseus to lead me on a journey.
He would have to somehow prove it to me that i should trust him.
but like Zach said, I believe he would get me through it in the end.
but then again, he seems only worried about hiself.
I think yes and no, because some of his men were dying because of what he did. But some of his men did live thought it all.
The only time that I lead someone was in girl scouts. And that was not really a difficult task that I had to complete.
I would NOT trust Odysseus to lead me through a difficult situation. He is more worried about himself than the lives of those around him. If I were to lead a group through a challenge, I would take into perspective how everyone could do something to help each other.

I am gong to have to disagree with you sorry :-), but he has let his personal life get in the way of his mens life he chose himself over his men, i wouldnt want him to do that to me!
